Cycling in The Great Trossachs Forest
Offering wonderful variety for all cyclists, The Great Trossachs Path links Inversnaid on the shores of Loch Lomond with Callander and National Cycle Route 7. The area is surrounded by mountains, sparkling shores, ancient woodland, and artistic heritage. Enjoy a lovely ride, immerse yourself in nature and feel re-energised.
Try short sections of The Great Trossachs Path or connecting loops of various character and levels of fitness. Alternatively, challenge yourself to ride the full route one-way in a day or less.
Sound Advice:
All the paths are shared. Not everyone will hear you coming so use your bell or horn.
Slow down if approaching animals.
Take care on steep sections.
Leave gates as you find them.
Mobile reception is poor in areas.
Cars, walkers, and cyclists share the route around Loch Katrine.
Take a puncture repair kit.

The Great Trossachs Path – Brenachoile Trail
3.4 km (one way)/Trossachs Pier car park
Cycle through the stunning scenery celebrated by Sir Walter Scott’s poem ‘The Lady of the Lake’ that inspired many artists, poets and writers. Brenachoile point is a great location for a picnic. Please watch for walkers and cars on this private tarmac road.
The Great Trossachs Path – Brig o’ Turk to Loch Achray
2 km (one way)/Brig o’ Turk village or Lendrick Hill car park
Beautiful lochside cycle offering great views of Ben Venue and Ben A’an. Follow The Great Trossachs Path past the Byre Inn and through the farm. The route can be extended by starting from the Lendrick Hill car park.
Ruskin Viewpoint
1.5 km/Brig o’ Turk village
A lovely cycle through woodlands, a picturesque village leading to a historic river viewpoint. Follow The Great Trossachs Path to Brig o’ Turk. Turn right at the tea room and follow the road through the village to the viewpoint.
Challenging Cycling Adventures
The Meann from Glen Finglas Visitor Gateway
24 km/Lendrick Hill car park
A strenuous route recommended for mountain bikes, this trail will take you around Meann Cala hill. The route takes you uphill across Lendrick Hill to the Glen Finglas reservoir, and then upwards through Glen Meann to 600m at the head of Glen Finglas. Enjoy the sparkling burns and reservoir as you descend down the glen.
Venachar Loop
23 km/Callander or Lendrick Hill car park
A great loop cycle with ancient woodland, wonderful views, and refreshments on the way. From Callander follow Route 7 towards Loch Katrine, turning right to Brig o’ Turk. Complete the loop along The Great Trossachs Path (take care there are some steep sections).

48 km (30 miles) one way/Callander Meadows car park or Inversnaid (ferries from Tarbet and Inveruglas)
A great day’s ride taking you through the heart of The Great Trossachs Forest National Nature Reserve. Along the route you will pass by newly regenerating woodlands, loch shores, mature woodlands, and loads of great viewpoints
Enjoyable Cycling Adventures
The Great Trossachs Path – Loch Katrine North Shore Road
20 km (one way)/Trossachs Pier car park
Celebrated by poets, writers and artists Loch Katrine is a jewel in the crown of Scottish landscapes. Look out for the Art and Literature Trail sign-boards – some will bring music to your ears. This is an exhilarating cycle along the loch shore on a tarmac road with a few hilly sections. Combined with a trip on the Steamship Sir Walter Scott (pre-booking bikes is advisable), this is a great way to experience everything the area has to offer.
Statute Labour Road
18 km (one way)/Aberfoyle
Passing by the tranquil shores of Loch Chon and Loch Ard, this route through conifer woodlands connects Aberfoyle to Stronachlachar and The Great Trossachs Path.
The Great Trossachs Path – Inversnaid to Stronachlachar
8 km (one way)/Tarbet, Inveruglas or Inversnaid car park
Catch a ferry from Inveruglas or Tarbet (West Loch Lomond) to Inversnaid. From Inversnaid cycle up the steep road then turn left to the RSPB Inversnaid Visitor Gateway and the historic Old Military Road section of The Great Trossachs Path.
