This woodland grouse lies and feeds on moorland and around woodland edges. Following a 49% decline in South and West Scotland between 1995 and 2005, the black grouse is now one of the highest priority species for urgent conservation action.

The work we are doing at The Great Trossachs Forest is helping to create suitable habitat for black grouse, and there are encouraging signs that the birds are starting to breed more successfully in the area.
